Why WordPress Should Be Your Top Choice For CMS?

November 18, 2021

Development
  1. It’s the most popular CMS system around with over 23% of the websites using it. It is more than double the number of Joomla.
  2. Huge media sites like Forbes, CNN, Tech in Asia are using WordPress. Comparatively, you won’t find many media sites using Joomla. WordPress works better when you have tons of articles.
  3. It’s easily SEOable and ranks quicker on Google.
  4. It is well maintained and has a huge community of developers and plugins which helps to bring down the cost of development.
  5. It is easy to use and easy to update for any user with minimum amounts of training required compared to Joomla which is much more complicated. This is important as for most media companies, the most important people using it are the editors, writers, marketers not the IT people.

Why Not Joomla?

Since Joomla is the 2nd CMS in the world after WordPress, let’s address the reasons for not choosing Joomla.

Taken from http://www.miracletutorials.com/wordpress-vs-joomla-review/

Importing articles from one site to another is not as easy as with WordPress. There are extensions for it like J2XMLwhich does a good job, but migrating from one major version to the next can be problematic with respect to third-party extensions. (See also below).

A remaining problem is that the core system is very complex which demands a lot of resources from the server. No problem if you have 500 articles or so, but if it runs into thousands.

Joomla brings out new major upgrades on a regular basis. These upgrades break a lot of extensions and migrating from older versions is not an easy task, especially when you have a complex setup with membership system, forum, etc. because it is the major reason why some people migrate to WordPress. Simple updates between upgrades are easy to do with a click on a button, they seldom break anything.

Concerns With WordPress?

Lastly, we address concerns with WordPress which people often discuss. There is a myth that WordPress sites are less secure than Joomla, which is not accurate as both are hackable. It’s just that there are so many more WordPress sites that they seem to keep coming up. The key is knowing how to adequately defend your site and have backups in place.

Some ways we deal with security issues:

1. Stay updated

2. Keep Firewalls up

3. Use only well-maintained plugins

4. Have proper server security settings

5. Have a proper backup system

6. Regularly reboot the server for maintenance
